How neto plaća in Croatia is calculated
Croatian payroll deducts a 20% pension contribution (15% first pillar, 5% second) from gross; health insurance is an employer cost.
After a personal allowance, income tax applies at municipal rates — a lower rate up to 5,000 EUR a month and a higher rate above (Zagreb charges 23% and 33%, cut from 23.6% and 35.4% in March 2025). Estimate, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions
What is the net pay for 1,800 EUR in Zagreb?
The 20% pension (360 EUR) and the personal allowance leave a tax base of 840 EUR; at 23% the tax is 193.20, giving about 1,247 EUR net.
Does health insurance come out of my pay?
No — the 16.5% health contribution is paid by the employer, so only the 20% pension reduces your take-home.
Why do rates differ by city?
Income tax rates are set by each municipality, so Zagreb and smaller towns charge different lower and higher rates.
