How salariu net in Romania is calculated

Romanian payroll is employee-heavy: CAS pension contribution is 25% and CASS health contribution is 10%, both borne by the employee, off gross.

Income tax is then a flat 10% on gross minus those contributions and the personal deduction. The deduction is degressive, largest at the minimum wage and zero above a modest income. Estimate, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the net salary for 6,000 RON in Romania?

CAS 25% (1,500) and CASS 10% (600) come off, then 10% tax on 3,900 is 390, leaving 3,510 RON net.

Why are Romanian contributions so high on the employee side?

A 2018 reform shifted most social contributions to the employee, so CAS and CASS together take 35% of gross before tax.

What is the personal deduction?

A degressive allowance that reduces the tax base, worth most at the minimum wage and phasing to zero at higher pay.
